back to normal

I realized something this weekend.
Something wonderful.
For the first time in in three years, we are back to normal.
Normal, meaning,
together.
As a family. All the time.

The last two fall seasons Robby has been in school. When he wasn't in class, he was studying, working on group projects, or burying his nose in a giant and devastatingly boring book. Yes we were able to squeeze in some normal activities here and there, but right now we are just loving all our time together.

This weekend was perfectly normal.
Friday we took a spur-of-the-moment drive up the canyon after the kids got home from school, and squeezed a quick mountain stroll in before the sun set.

Saturday the kids' had soccer and it was so fun to be able to watch together.
The morning was chilly and we shared a blanket in the dewey grass.
The afternoon was spent doing chores and yard work--windows open with the fresh fall air pouring in.

I cleaned myself up--primped and plucked and even managed some eyeliner.
We had a date. A wonderful glorious fantastic date--these are a rare occasion for us and we enjoyed every bite of food and every minute of adult conversation.

Sunday we slept in, ate daddy's french toast, and giggled at our Littles singing their hearts out in church. We napped and played chess, and ate enchiladas and brownies.

And we enjoyed it all. I love normal.

Here's to more evenings at home, fall drives, and dinner around the table together....
the end.

I am jealous of your fall foliage and of your normal family time. Someday we'll get that back, too, I hope!!
